Privacy Policy — SCALAR Atelier

Effective date: [FILL IN — publish date]

Last updated: 2026-07-09

SCALAR Atelier ("the App," "we," "our") is a macOS desktop application published by Seunghyeon Lee, operating as an individual founder prior to incorporation (SCALAR Inc., incorporation planned for 2026-07-21). This policy explains what data the App handles and, just as importantly, what it does not.

1. Summary (the short version)

SCALAR Atelier is designed to be local-first. Your conversations, files, and API keys stay on your Mac. We do not operate any analytics, telemetry, or tracking in the App — there is nothing "phoning home" with your usage data. The only data that leaves your device is what you deliberately send to an AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, etc.) using your own API key, and payment/license data handled by our payment processor.

2. What we do NOT collect

  • We do not collect analytics or usage telemetry of any kind. The App contains no analytics SDK (no Google Analytics, no product-analytics tooling, no crash-reporting service).
  • We do not receive your conversations, prompts, AI responses, uploaded files, or project contents. These are processed and stored entirely on your device.
  • We do not receive your AI provider API keys. Keys are stored locally using the macOS Keychain and are never transmitted to our servers.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes, because we do not collect it in the first place.

3. What is stored, and where

Data Where it lives Who can access it
AI provider API keys macOS Keychain (local, OS-encrypted) Only your Mac, only the App at runtime
Conversations, session history, project files you attach Local app-data folder on your Mac (~/.ratatouille_data by default, or a folder you choose) Only your Mac
Audit/execution logs (which AI handled a request, cost estimates) Local app-data folder on your Mac Only your Mac
License activation status Local device + our payment processor's license records (see §4) You, and our payment processor for license validation

If you delete the app-data folder or uninstall the App, this local data is removed with it (standard macOS uninstall/Time Machine behavior applies — the App does not maintain a server-side backup of your content).

4. Data that goes to third parties — and why

  • AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, or others you connect): When you send a request, the App calls the AI provider you've connected using your own API key. Your prompt, and any file content you've included, is transmitted directly from your device to that provider under their privacy policy and data-handling terms — not ours. We recommend reviewing your chosen provider's policy. SCALAR Atelier does not proxy, log, or retain a copy of this traffic.
  • Payment processor (Lemon Squeezy, acting as Merchant of Record): When you purchase a license, your payment details are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy — we never receive or store your card/payment information. Lemon Squeezy issues a license key that the App validates. See Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy for how they handle payment data.
  • Update check (optional): The App may check a version-manifest URL we host to notify you of new releases. This check does not transmit any personal data or usage content — it is a simple "is there a newer version" request.

5. Your controls

  • Delete your data: Remove the App's local data folder to delete all locally stored conversations, files, and logs.
  • Remove API keys: Delete a connected provider's key from the in-app key panel at any time; it is removed from Keychain immediately.
  • Spend limits: You can set a daily spend cap in-app; this is enforced locally and does not involve us or any third-party tracking.

6. Children's privacy

SCALAR Atelier is not directed to children under 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children, consistent with §2 above (we do not collect personal data from any user).

7. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, note them in the in-app update notice.

This policy reflects the App's actual current architecture (BYOK, local-first storage, no telemetry) as verified against the codebase on 2026-07-09.
